I suspect it's not just this, there's plenty of 'optimization' around rubberbanding usage limits as well as routing to a different model in the backend. The incentives are too strong.

Anthropic says they're keeping limits 50% higher through August 31st, but I somehow blitzed through all of my weekly fable usage since my reset yesterday morning with comparatively very light use. This is supposed to be **20x** max? With 50% higher limits? So …

I've had to implement lazy loading of mcps in a couple of harnesses now but am moving to implement everything as code mode instead.
That’s why enterprise has an expectation for MCP and API affordances for every software tool they use.

higher price = lower churn
sounds wrong but let me explain
we launched Tweet Hunter at $9/month then raised prices, slowly
$9 -> $19 -> $29 -> $39 -> $49 over roughly 12 months
price went up 400%, and churn went DOWN
here's what I have learned about pricing and churn from that:
1. churn is decided at signup, not at cancellation
your pricing is a psychological filter on who comes in
a bad-fit customer will leave in a month or two max. with low prices they come in fast
because $9 says "it's someone's weekend project"
and $49 says "it's a serious business built for serious operators"
2. the buyer changes with price, so the behaviour changes
often if a $9/month user does not see value, they cancel right away
(at this price, users generally come in to try or buy on impulse)
but a $49/month user comes in with a goal and they usually try harder to get the value from it
and if they have issues, they raise support tickets that make the product better
what cheap pricing actually costs you:
3. cheap customers are the most expensive ones
low prices don't just bring in users who leave fast, they bring in the most demanding people you'll ever serve
more unreasonable feature requests, more support tickets, more refunds, and less revenue to cover any of it. I still do support on all 6 products, so I feel this one directly
4. your pricing decides what kind of users you let in, and that changes what YOU build
low prices quietly cap what direction you take your product in
how to actually raise prices:
5. raise slowly and ship while you raise
$9 to $49 overnight is a completely different move than $9 to $49 across a year of shipping
we shipped a lot on Tweet Hunter in those 12 months and I could see the difference in who was signing up
6. do not change the price for old users
because for an old user, leaving means losing a rate they can never get back
strongest retention lever I know
that's lock-in though, not fit. split your churn by old price and new price if you want to know which one you actually got
7. when "too expensive" shows up as the reason for cancellation, that's usually not about price
it's the polite version of "I stopped seeing value"
if your product adds value to your users at a justified price, they will rarely complain about price
and if they do, either your product isn't delivering value or they aren't the right user
8. past a certain price you leave impulse territory and enter budget review
the Outrank agency plan is at $1,499. at that price nobody forgets they're paying you
it gets looked at every month, on purpose, as an active expense
see, all of this is true, but none of it will work if your product doesn't deliver the value you promise
a high price on a weak product will just get you a lot of refund requests, nothing else
it has played out similarly across all of my SaaS:
- Revid: acquired as Typeframes, one-off videos, ~30% churn. rebuilt it as a real subscription at a real price. $00k+/month today
- Outrank: $99/month, premium instead of cheap. LTV up 33%, churn down ~20%. $120k mrr last August -> $300k+ today
- SuperX: told people last September to lock in $29 before it moved. it's at $49 now
so do this today:
pull up your cheapest cohort and your most expensive cohort
compare retention, engagement, support tickets and even user type
you already know what you'll find

I remember as a PC guy how I bought my first Apple device, a MacBook Pro, in 2013
I bought it because that's what my brother had (a pro VFX guy) and also a lot of people in startups around then switched to MacBooks
Back then Windows had become such a POS to use
I'm starting to feel we're reaching a similar moment with Apple
I just saw @dhh's Omarchy's foundation announcement and this video by @theo is also accurate
Apple has given a consistent big F U to developers for over a decade, but at least their software worked well enough. The last few years that changed and you start seeing really dumb and messy bugs everywhere especially in iOS but also MacOS
As an example every time I open my camera from my iPhone's homescreen to quickly picture somethig that quickly happened (like a plane flying by slow) I miss it because my Camera app goes into a weird blur freeze or just stays black
Just basic software things Apple can't even do anymore
A big reason for this of course, may I say it, is Steve not being there. Steve was obsessed about details. Modern Apple doesn't care about details at all
Developers are just a tiny sliver of society but they are trend setting and if you lose them, there's a good chance the rest of people will move on to other platforms too
Apple should be studying what's happening now because add this to also investing $0 into AI (which people call a "great move" as models go open, I'm really not sure about that) they might not have a moat left
I know for sure if I switch from a MacBook Pro running MacOS to a Dell XPS with Linux that will be a gateway drug for me to also move my iPhone with iOS to some great hardware phone running a great custom minimal Android install
And I never even considered switching before this year!

Should you eat organic food or not?
@bryan_johnson said that sometimes organic is worse than non-organic, so I wanted to check this myself.
I found 2 datasets:
- 🇺🇸 California DPR: 330 organic + 2,743 non-organic samples
- 🇩🇪 EFSA Germany: 1,913 organic + 7,907 non-organic samples
I compared measured pesticide concentrations, detection frequency, multiple residues, and EPA-relative exposure.
1. Pesticide residues appeared in 13.9% organic vs 75.2% non-organic, about 82% less often.
2. Organic had lower EPA-relative exposure for 22 of 23 foods.
I plotted the chart below that shows organic foods in color and their non-organic equivalents in gray for comparison: https://t.co/lqryeeY98u
What I understand from this data:
1) If you can, go full organic.
2) If not, prioritize organic for 🥬 lettuce (5% vs 80% detected), 🍎 apples (5% vs 91%), 🫑 peppers (16% vs 80%), 🍐 pears (22% vs 89%), and 🥬 spinach (31% vs 95%).
3) Broccoli 🥦 is a lower priority: exposure was only 0.014% vs 0.022% of the EPA reference level

Got this running at 60fps on desktop and mobile (in the browser)!
Sol transformed the graphics but left with me a web app running at 10 fps
To optimise I…
Generated medium and low poly versions of every asset.
(Depending on your distance it will hot swap. Low models at far distances, high at close and medium for everything else)
The sea reflection doubled the processing (it literally redraws the entire world but just upside down)
Switched out the reflections to the low poly versions. And then it only updates every second frame.
I tried running this every 4 seconds but it was just too noticeable
Added fog. Fog is your best friend to hide the ugliness 😂
I had originally downloaded meshes and some of them were 30k tris. I asked fable to work with fal ai to get them all down to 2k.
The palm tree was the biggest offender. It didn’t need to be as detailed for what the scene needs. And it gets duplicated *everywhere* causing massive slowdowns.
And then I just had to go through all the visuals and fix them one by one. Getting everything to look right by sight.
End result: I love it

higher price = lower churn
sounds wrong but let me explain
we launched Tweet Hunter at $9/month then raised prices, slowly
$9 -> $19 -> $29 -> $39 -> $49 over roughly 12 months
price went up 400%, and churn went DOWN
here's what I have learned about pricing and churn from that:
1. churn is decided at signup, not at cancellation
your pricing is a psychological filter on who comes in
a bad-fit customer will leave in a month or two max. with low prices they come in fast
because $9 says "it's someone's weekend project"
and $49 says "it's a serious business built for serious operators"
2. the buyer changes with price, so the behaviour changes
often if a $9/month user does not see value, they cancel right away
- SuperX: told people last September to lock in $29 before it moved. it's at $49 now
so do this today:
pull up your cheapest cohort and your most expensive cohort
compare retention, engagement, support tickets and even user type
you already know what you'll find
results so far 👀
not insane but not bad

I'm telling you this:
What I have done with https://t.co/3tMzhIlC1s is only possible thanks to AI. I wouldn't have spent the time to manually code / maintain this thing and would have never shipped it.
AI is accelerating us. Make use of it.
In fact, you will hit an effectiveness ceiling within hours if you don't understand how software systems work.
And it goes beyond being able to read the code. It starts with configuring the harness, clearly expressing what needs to be built in the prompt, and setting up validation and testing systems to ensure functionality is maintained over time.
All of these require domain knowledge in programming (plus the actual domain expertise of the field that the solution exists in).
引用@tylertringasA background in programming (aka talking to computers) is still hugely beneficial when working with AI agents. ↗
Some founders are responding with a sensational amount of grifter energy to the whole bidding website hype. This will ultimately backfire spectacularly.
I've been noticing that in myself too, and I feel that, in some ways, I've learned a better, more precise way of expressing a concept I would otherwise have misnamed. Kind of a good thing, right?

引用@philfreoEveryone’s been complaining about Claude-speak in the last couple months but can I just point out that I think it’s actually been changing engineers own vocabulary?

Bidding websites are novelty projects on the surface.
The underlying mechanism is one of raw attention, both on the website itself and in the meta-conversation around it.
If you still believe advertising doesn't work, then you're missing the biggest learning from Outbid. https://t.co/Rgur9JB7lk
The main lesson founders should take away from this is that the confluence of having built an audience for many years and daring to launch new ideas in public tills the soil for events like this.
Maybe ask Jonathan how many failed products he has built before today.

Really interesting to see @jonathan_wilke’s success with https://t.co/5lMvpY3I9l
I first saw it when someone tagged me as it looked similar to my https://t.co/z2G662TXrN. And while conceptually alike, I think there’s some important differences that made his way more successful:
1) https://t.co/dqDYluSaEY’s execution is simply better. B2B-first positioning (versus my philosophical art project approach), it shows the product value (number of clicks received), designed it like a product discovery platform (so makers are already used to adding their product), and you can increase your existing bid which I never ended up implementing meaning it’s hard to get a proper bidding war going.
2) His timing is perfect. I launched https://t.co/z2G662TXrN in 2016 which was Product Hunt’s heyday and distribution wasn’t as much as a pain point. Today however, everyone is struggling for attention. https://t.co/dqDYluSaEY is a perfect “just throw some money at the problem” solution. And while it may not be a long term acquisition channel, it’s a fun way to be part of a meme and get some traffic.
Seeing all the clones pop up now is funny, but I think the more interesting lesson isn’t “build another bidding site.” It’s to try weird ideas like this in the first place.
Don’t overthink it. Ship things. It’s impossible to predict what will work. So just have some fun.
