“According to our measurements, we have now reached the goal, announced last fall, of having an automated research intern by September of this year.”
“We are making strong progress toward creating an automated AI researcher by March of 2028.”
A few interesting numbers on how research is changing inside OpenAI:
> Code changes per contributor: 7x the pre-2025 average
> Experiments per active experimenter: 1.6x the 2025 baseline
> Agent runtime: 3.1 workdays per researcher workday
> Success without intervention on tasks estimated at 4–8 human hours: 18% to 53% from Jan to July
Bullish!

My eye glazed over a bit during the opening paragraphs, but once you get to the meat of the article about how OpenAI's own researchers are using their tools it gets a lot more interesting. I noted that they use the acronym RSI (for Recursive Self-Improvement) without defining it. I think that's a little out of touch - I don't think RSI is a well-known acronym outside of OpenAI's bubble yet.

We've made some improvements that improve usage on the long tail for power users of Astra when logged in with your ChatGPT account.
No change in quality and a pure win that on the long tail can result in up to 3-4X less usage being drawn from the subscription.
To calibrate you all on which reasoning effort to use for Astra, know that GPT-6 Astra on low performs better than GPT-5.6 Sol on high.
If you were using high reasoning efforts with Sol and were happy, I suggest you move down to low or medium for Astra.
Fable does this trial and error thing to get to the finished product. It burns token in the process while it iterates and self reviews
Meanwhile Astra seems to understand the problem and solution immediately. Then finds the most direct path to get there.
The result: Astra is more efficient when you have a clear outcome presented. It gets there quick with minimal token burning.
Fable *does* get there too. But it chews your tokens in the process.
The best way to promote Astra is to be prescriptive about exactly what you want and let it do its thing.
What techniques do you use for making AI-authored PR's easier to review?

The wildest version of this I've heard is @dctanner's agent, who uses Playwright to record a video of the frontend feature working with text-to-speech over the top. So the agent literally talks you through its change.
I’ve talked to a lot of non-tech people recently and that keeps me bullish on the SaaS model. When they buy something they don’t pay to get a product but to get a job done.
It’s true that we’re getting closer to a moment where even they could build anything themselves with a prompt.
But I know most of them won’t because what they really want to buy is not the tool. It’s the peace of mind that everything will just work and won’t break at the wrong time.
Daniel Ritzenthaler提供了一个不漂亮却诚实的样本:Subsail的设计从2016、2017年起几乎没变,甚至不响应移动端,但客户从未抱怨,因为它一直能工作。技术债真实存在,用户优先级也同样真实。
I'm embarrassed by my own product.
I built Subsail by hand in 2016 and 2017 and the design has not changed since then. It's functional, but not pretty, and it isn't even responsive, meaning it's a pain to use on mobile.
There are always more important things to work on. I haven't made the time to update it, use something like Tailwind, or make it responsive. Don't even think about dark mode lol.
I'd love to update it. But also, I've never had anyone complain. It works, so I leave it working
Adam Lyttle则没有被生成速度催着立刻发布。他给一批小游戏累计观察近100小时使用,发现一个回访更强的候选,但仍决定继续看数据,再判断是否做成App。生成把试验成本打下来,留存仍然替不了。
With nearly 100 hours of games played since I started tracking last week I’ve learned a few things:
There is one standout game which could be built into something more substantial and released as an app on the App Store
But it’s not a true outlier in any sense. It’s just more “sticky” than the other games with more people coming back again and again.
Before I invest in making it a real game/app I’m going to keep watching it.
In the meantime the experimentation continues.
Direction for the upcoming week:
Fun games with more game mechanic than just “do the thing and rank on the leaderboard” type stickiness. I’m thinking levels, progression, etc
I’ve been thinking a lot about old games I loved as a kid that could be revamped for 2026. Games like bridge builder and the incredible machine were fun. And there hasn’t been a decent web version successor created yet. I’m exploring this path.
Also: I like this idea of creating an open world type game that you explore (drive around to inside buildings) and I’m trying to work out the best premise/game mechanic for it. Will see how it goes.

What's mad about OpenAI's Jalapeño chip is that if AI really helped develop it, it was mostly MUCH weaker models than Astra, considering how long the process takes. And yet, they still beat Nvidia.
They would have started only when o1-ish model was around and would have done most of the core design by GPT-5.
So imagine what kind of chip you could build with a special version of Astra in the loop, RL'd to do chip design. I bet we haven't yet seen even 1% of what AI can really do for problems like these.
Estimated Jalapeño timeline:
- Oct 2024: Chip architecture. o1 era.
- Feb 2025: Circuit design begins. o3 era.
- Jul 2025: Chip logic frozen. GPT‑5 era. AI optimisation: matrix unit 10% smaller, vector unit 8% smaller.
- Nov 2025: Design sent for manufacturing, nine months after circuit design began.
- Summer 2026: Codex with Astra helps port three models in two months. Selected kernels run 1.5–1.8× faster than expert-written versions.
If you ask Astra to create a design from scratch, it is often pretty aggressively mid.
If you ask it to polish your existing design, while keeping to your branding - it creates really excellent designs. Was surprised how great they were on multiple occasions.

Omarchy is the only operating system in 2026 built for AI
If you take AI serious, you're making major mistake by not pulling a beater laptop out of your closet and installing Omarchy ASAP
Here are 11 tips to get started:
1. Set up is painfully easy. Plug a USB thumb drive (I bought one for 10 bucks at Micro Center) into your normal computer. Go to any AI agent and say to flash the USB drive with Omarchy so you can install it on another computer. Tell it to walk you through step by step how to do it (it's dead simple and takes under 5 minutes)
2. You can use ANY computer. You don't need to buy a new one. There are people installing Omarchy on 15 year old laptops with 2gb of memory. Go to your closet and pull out your old college laptop.
3. Anything you don't like about the OS, just change it. Because the operating system is open source, you can edit the code. Anything you don't like (I didn't love the notification system) I just go to my chatgpt, hermes, or grok bot agents and just say "change this for me". Boom like magic it changes
4. Explore the plugins marketplace. There are some INCREDIBLE community made plugins for the OS. My favorite is a google calendar one that always shows my next meeting in my nav bar.
5. Build your own plugins. This is my favorite part about using open source software. It's never been easier to build your own plugins and contribute to the community. I'm building my own focus timer I'll ship in the next couple of days.
6. Make it your own. The built in themes to Omarchy are BEAUTIFUL. Explore them and see which one fits your vibe the most. I love Osaka nights.
7. Daily drive it. Once you get used to the keybinds and the way the OS works I promise it'll be impossible to go back to MacOS or especially Windows. Give yourself some time to learn the ins and outs.
8. Contribute to the community. Share your tips and tricks on social media. The more people we have using Omarchy, the more people build improvements, the better the OS is.
9. Customize the keybinds. Keybinds are the most important concept of Omarchy. It's an OS built to be used just with your keyboard. So make the keybinds your own. For instance I made super+A a pop up that allows me to quickly add a todo item to my list. Boosts my productivity a ton. To customize, just ask your AI agent to change them
10. If you are going to buy a new computer, I LOVE the Framework 13 Pro, altho the Dell XPS 14 is great too. I like the Framework a lot because it's MacBook Pro quality, but you literally have to build it yourself which made the computer really feel like my own (I'm not sponsored by anyone involved with this post btw)
11. Contribute to the community. The more people using Omarchy the better.
Integrated ChatGPT 6 Astra into World of Warcraft Classic
Went to Codex and said "make me a Herdr plugin for WoW. Make it so I can see all my agents and I get notified when they're done
3 minutes later I can now message all my agents in WoW
This is what's beautiful about AI. It allows you to do more of what you love. More of what brings you joy. While still being significantly more productive than you've ever been
Wake up. AI starts building you value autonomously. Do literally whatever you want with your day.
This is the future
Now will I ever get attention from females again now that I announced World of Warcraft brings me joy? No.
Is it still worth it? Yes.
The next trillion dollar AI business will be an AI game studio
The video game industry is bigger than you can imagine. Larger than movies and music COMBINED
For YEARS now video games have absolutely SUCKED
The economics of video games became broken. They became too expensive to make
Developers demand hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, then refuse to use AI
It's completely killed the entire industry
People don't remember this, but there was only 1 year between Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto Vice City. 362 days to be exact.
It's been THIRTEEN YEARS since the last Grand Theft Auto
From 1 year to 13 years. A completely broken industry
AI fixes this. AI allows one developer to have the power of a team of literally 1,000 developers
While the video game industry absolutely REFUSES to embrace innovation, that gives you the opportunity to strike
If you can make a game of any sort of quality right now with GPT 6 Astra, you can take a bite of a $213 BILLION dollar a year industry that would rather their company go bankrupt than use AI
Video games being all over your timeline the last 24 hours is a MAJOR signal
An entire industry is broken and begging to by disrupted by innovation
I'm legitimately starting my own game dev studio, and you 100% should consider it too
We live in the most incredible time to be alive ever
We've achieved AGI. Astra allows you to build quite literally anything you could possibly imagine. And it's affordable for all
If you don't think it's AGI, answer this: what would 10 year ago you think?
We also have the most incredible AI agent harness ever created
Grok Bot allows you to have unlimited productivity
ANYONE can now have a team of agents working for them
Before you'd need to hire a team of employees that would cost you millions a year. Now Grok Bot gives that to you for $200.
We have Claude Fable. Yes it's now behind Astra. But this is the first time Anthropic is the under dog. Never count them out
We have the open source community stronger than ever. Omarchy is the best operating system ever made. Hermes is your very own open source employee
If you're light on cash that's fine. Meta has a new model that costs like a penny per million tokens and it's just as good as Opus
The most important part about all of this is success can now be achieved by anyone who wants it. Creation and entrepreneurship has for the first time ever been completely democratized
There's nothing holding you back. Anything you want to build you can now build it. Whatever value you want to create for humanity you can now create it.
If you're into tech or just care about the human race, there's never been a better time to be alive in the history of this species
Take a second this Saturday to just be grateful and thank whichever god/universe/spirit you believe in

🎒After a decade, I have made https://t.co/HGCLKS5BD6 free for everyone now!
Well almost free, it's $1 to sign up to avoid getting lots of spam
The reason is
1) I have made enough money (from it)
2) charging for a community artificially limits the size, if you put the price at $299 you get 50 new members per month, at $99 you get 200 people, at $29 you get 400 people, etc.
And this always annoyed me, I don't want to put a limit but I had to, to be able to make money from it, so it's free now
I want it to be it the biggest community for digital nomads, world travelers, sovereign thinkers and network state type people
For years it has has a great sponsor with @SafetyWing and I think that's maybe a better model for the future, get much more people in and then just add more sponsors
Right now for the record it has 43,252 paid members (so about 300/mo for 12 years!), so it will be interesting to see what it can grow too
I think now that AGI is on the horizon (or some say already here), online and offline (IRL) communities will become really important. People are talking more to AI now than to humans, and there was already a loneliness epidemic before AI
Making new friends and dating is not so easy for people now. And with remote work and entrepreneurship, people lack a space like an office where people would usually make friends or meet partners
I made most of the friends I have now through traveling and living around the world for the last 10+ years (and many via my site too), and I also met my girlfriend through those friends! So I think communities can have a real role in that post-AGI
Post-AGI business wise, communities also have a moat where many of my SaaS apps do not. So there is some urgency I feel to make Nomads in to the best community there is for those people. But that's why I have to remove any limitations to its growth now
So in a way after 12 years I am switching to the subsidized VC model a bit, but still 100% bootstrapped, kinda like "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain"
Having enough money now I can afford to do these things and figure out the business model later, which I think will be more sponsors
Enjoy and please sign up and tell me what to improve!!! 😊

But… shipaton … ↗
I've had a bunch of people ask me how I made this
This is my exact process:
First I drew a sketch of what I wanted the subway station to look like. I asked Nano Banana 2 to turn it into a render using this prompt:
"turn this sketch into a photorealistic Unreal engine generated game scene from an AAA game studio. its a subway station looking straight down the walkway between the platforms with trains on either platform. load baring pillars and the stairwell ahead that takes you to the subway above"
Then I asked GPT-6 Astra on Ultra to turn into a technical demo that showcases its capabilities with this prompt:
"Create a threejs interactive technical demo that showcases your models technical capabilities of this subway scene '/Users/adamlyttle/dev/subway-test/subway-scene.png'. It must look exactly like this scene with trains entering and leaving the platforms in a realistic manner. Doors opening and the interactive first person view being able to walk around the platform, enter a train when it’s at the station and explore upstairs. Upstairs will have the ticket gates, toilets and a convenience store that is stocked. The brief is for the entire interactive area to have the same photo realism as the photo attached. it must be able to run on desktop using a mouse + keyboard or gamepad using normal game controls and no ability to walk through walls. I should be able to explore the platform, the train carriages, the upstairs area, the toilets, the convenience store and I should be able to look at the ticket gates but not exit. This is a closed world after all. Every scene built needs to feel like its part of the same world as the original photo, a person looking must immediately think they are part of the same demonstration with the same photo realism. When I enter a train the train will not leave the platform. You have access to fal ai mcp for asset generation (textures, mesh, etc). Your job is to build the scene to be a perfect replica of the attached photo and expand on the world into the train carriages and the upstairs area. Quality is AAA game with photo realism perfect replica of attached photo. You are not authorised to look at the other agents work in the subway-test folder. In the progress folder generate a index.html file which documents your process including screenshots in a way that a human looking will understand your thinking and process and see the journey as it unfolds. Build it."
That's it. Astra did the rest for me.
It only took 26m 9s and used 10,460,032 tokens to generate 🤷🏻♂️

It’s true that we’re getting closer to a moment where even they could build anything themselves with a prompt.
