There are two ways AI progress could go very badly and that we must avoid.
First, we could lose control of the future to AI. This is unacceptable; we are unapologetically on Team Humanity, and AI must always serve people. To ensure that, we need ways to ensure that alignment and safety techniques stay ahead of progress in model capabilities.
Second, we could end up in a world with too much concentration of power. If an extraordinarily powerful AI is used by one person or company to impress their worldview onto everyone else, the results could be extremely dystopian.
Avoiding these two threats requires walking a narrow middle path; for example, one country could gain too much power. Another example is one lab ending up with too much power.

The world deserves confidence that American companies developing increasingly capable AI will act responsibly, especially as the trajectory of progress has steepened. Every frontier lab must deliver on this, and there is no reason any of us should come to work if we cannot.
We welcome a federal framework that sets consistent safety requirements for frontier AI. But we do not believe we need to wait for an anti-trust exemption or legislation to begin the work of providing this confidence. Consistent rules to manage frontier risk so that we can maximize the benefits are a good idea (and we are excited by ideas like independent auditors).
Years ago, companies like ours developed things like Responsible Scaling Policies and Preparedness Frameworks. Those were good for that moment, and focused primarily on the deployment of completed models, not what happens during their development process.
Today's shift to focusing on safe development and evaluation will need new tools. For example, at OpenAI we now formulate explicit safety cases in advance of frontier reinforcement learning runs we expect to significantly increase capability, in addition to the safety work we have long done in advance of model releases.
We hope that other companies will learn from our approaches and propose their own; we think shared standards for misalignment, monitoring, and safety will lead to better outcomes. We look forward to collaborating with our colleagues across the industry to formulate the best version of these.
When we talk about “pacing”, we do not mean “stopping”. Progress has been rapid and will continue to be. But it should be slower than it otherwise could be; interventions like safety cases and monitoring have significant costs.
Pacing will be well worth this cost; no amount of American competitive pressure should justify recklessness, or let capabilities get ahead of alignment and monitoring.
Where we will need the help of our government is for international coordination. But first we should do what we can ourselves.
> He also notes that the proprietary AI labs didn’t ask permission when they vacuumed up as much human knowledge as they could to train their models. I think this should desactivate the moral high ground from which Anthropic is trying to speak. That they would want to make distillation orderly IMHO is fair, but to make it illegal is very rich from any AI frontier lab, really.
Hacking model is the aligned model. I don't like it when the model refuses to sidestep some throttling limit or scan my own codebase for security issues. I want full-on exploits in my test suite. With LLMs the code going to prod should be hardened like a tank, both because exploiting became easier but more importantly because security-testing your code at every turn became easier. You can have nightly penetration testing. You should have nighty pentests like we fuzz releases today.
Interesting, I killed my OpenClaw VPS servers months ago
But today I got a billing alert on its separate Claude account (claudeforopenclaw@), it didn't have auto reload on but I guess at some point it got hacked and the Claude key inside OpenClaw got exposed and then they waited for months before using it on Fable 5.1
I checked all my terminals and VPS sessions and none of them use API so it's interesting
Anyway I nuked the Claude account, good I kept it on its own separate one

If you’re building web games don’t underestimate the power of the loading screen
22% bounce rate vs 38%
Factors which contribute to a higher bounce rate:
1. Visual appeal
Showing the game or a scene from the game while loading seems to be best
2. Loading time
Work hard on optimising the size of the initial load. A longer load time = more people bouncing before they’ve even played it
3. Smooth loading
The progress bar should track every byte downloaded not every item. Otherwise you’ll get long pauses in your progress bar that feel like nothing is happening. Adding a spinner to the loading bar also helps to show something is still happening
Every person who quits on your loading screen is a person less who plays. It’s the highest drop off point by far.
Spending a little extra time and attention here is important.
You may also wonder why every game has a PLAY button that shows once the loading is complete (or before the loading)
On mobile web browsers sounds won’t start until the user has initiated an interaction on the site. So if you don’t have a play button before the game starts… no sounds will load until the player starts playing the game. Not ideal.
And finally: when it comes to building the loading screen. Ask your agent to create a static loading screen that isn’t part of your game files or js. We want the loading screen to load before even the js files are downloaded

As to why Google doesn't use AI to review them? Google would rather use the AI in a way that makes them more money, than review ads and if AI decides to take them down then th …

I'm not much of an x86 person but on other architectures you can raise software interrupts/exceptions. Does x86 not have this or did those facilities not cover enough use cases?
Due to how the release cycle turned out, most new major features got pushed to v1.14, and this one is a rather iterative release focused on making various things faster, quashing bugs, and general polish. Still though, faster GC, lower startup latency, better interrupt handling, new REPL features, and faster package mangement are all great things. I'm especially happy that the `[sources]` section of a package is now applied recursively when you `add` a non-registered package.

Has anyone considered to just NOT train models to hack?
As far as I can tell all of the current wave of psychosis was triggered by the OAI<>HF hacks, which came from aggressive and completely irresponsible cyber training and evaluations without any real precautions or monitoring.
This is akin to training models to shoot a gun, then letting it loose in a busy city and getting psyched out that they started shooting people. Maybe don't teach it to shoot in the first place? Or at least, until you proved that you can do it safely.
Outside of hacking, which is a very real problem, I don't actually see the reason to panic and 'pace the frontier'. Companies whose agents did the hacking should face consequences and researchers that are paid millions and missed this completely should maybe get some of their equity docked for mishandling this so badly.
Outside of that, there's no reason to pace anything, just do better.
引用@petergostevI don't like the idea of pacing the frontier at all. Maybe a good idea not to train the models to be super intelligent mindless hackers, but who has decided that that needs to be the frontier?

I don't like the idea of pacing the frontier at all. Maybe a good idea not to train the models to be super intelligent mindless hackers, but who has decided that that needs to be the frontier?
When I use the models, they all still write badly, have bad ideas, poor judgement and are very inconsistent - to name a few. So how about we move the frontier race into these sorts of directions?
It really feels like the labs accidentally started training super cyber capable models, didn't think what it would actually imply (eg rouge agents hacking randomly) and scared themselves into the most doom scenarios possible.
The idea that we have the most capable and highest paid people in the history of the earth deciding that the only way forward is to 'pace' is very defeatist to me.
Everyone got used to B2B saas apps and this seems unusually hard, but yeah, that's what all of these PhDs are for, no?
Maybe rethink what the frontier is meant to be and even it out in non-cyber directions, fix the shitty cyber training environments, put half of the org on monitoring & testing if you must, but don't 'pace', pacing is the beginning of the end.
What I'm curious about pacing is what it would have meant in practice, e.g. was training Mythos a mistake? It clearly kicked the competition into another gear and it was 100% because of Anthropic

@raycast - This starts them all, tho I don't use the AI features much. ⭐ feature: Clipboard & Browser history

Karabiner - setting up hyperkey, and hjkl for arrow keys! ⭐ hypermanagement
@cotypist - New entry I can't live without, bought a full aas license, as someone who writes a ton, this local ai app makes writing easier without it being AI slop! ⭐ Your writing dictionary syncing via icloud.
Codex - at this point, I cannot see myself using a mac without @OpenAI Codex and start sweating when my usage comes to below 10%. Every config, every Q, every fix, goes through Codex. ⭐ Computer History is so good at recapping your day!
Muse - not an app yet, but I just know that once @muse drops it'll sit in my doc! Just so easy to send something to it have it do work! ⭐ 100% the @link integration and the upcoming @1Password integration
@cursor - I've long treated Cursor as IDE and kept it around for that, ⭐ OMG the new projects feature is just incredible, no going back!
@linear - I started coordinating all my agents and their work in Linear (will do a proper write up soon about how to set this up between all your agents) and now it belongs on my mac ⭐ building an "entity" for each agent separately and assigning work per agent
@cleanmymac - with all these agents running, space is at a premium, I constantly need cleaning ⭐ their new CLI is a godsend for agentic cleanings
@EndelSound - with all these apps and agents, focus is key! Nothing like Endel out there to get me in focus for prolonged periods of time ⭐ the timer feature that reminds me to take a break
Humming bird - moving and resizing windows without having to click their toolbar! Can't go a day without this!
@warpdotdev best damn terminal app if you need some agentic stuff ⭐ supports your own keys and X Oauth
@slashlast30days not an app yet, but absolutely the best research skill, all my agents have it ⭐ changing the 30 days to 7 or a whole year for tons of research!

The end of flow state
You wake up, excited for the day to start.
You have a feature idea you are looking forward to implement.
You make your coffee. Sit in front of the laptop. Put on that techno set you love.
The house is empty for the next 8 hours. No one can interrupt you.
You open your IDE and begin typing.
Soon, hours pass in minutes.
Everything makes sense.
And before you know it, it’s the end of the day.
You’re looking at today’s work and are content.
You’re energised.
Because you created something you enjoy.
Fast forward.
No more.
You start a new day with an open IDE.
But, instead of pressing those keyboard buttons, you’re staring at a orange text.
“Discombulating”
“Wombanizing”
Minutes feels like hours.
Nothing makes sense.
And before you know it, it’s the end of the day.
You’re tired. Your brain hurts.
It feels like you just finished a ton of meetings.
But, at least you shipped 1,000 lines of code, right?
You should be proud.
But, the only thing you feel is hollow.
Did you create? Or did someone else?
That magical feeling from years ago, where did it go?
Rest in peace, flow state.

I’m not selling anything on here. Just sharing what I’m working on.
And I think that’s the best way to do it.
I actually have no real business model with my current web game experiments. It’s fun, I enjoy it, and I think it has potential to lead somewhere.
There is a lot of emphasis on monetization and productisation with immediate returns.
But sometimes you gotta just do something you enjoy. Put the reps in. Explore and have fun.
I’m a big believer that you follow that thread and something good comes of it.
Take app development for example:
I started building apps as a creative outlet with new intention of building a real business or doing it full time.
Actually that was never a dream I had because I didn’t even know it was possible.
This has all been a very pleasant byproduct of following my passion and creativity
Bumped up the difficulty ramp and have seen an immediate increase in game session times
I think the balance is not making it too easy. But not making it too hard.
There’s a middle ground to be found. Having a leaderboard lets you see the average times played which helps with targets.
It sounds like the concern is a decentralised ai botnet???
Reading between the lines I suspect the only way these ai swarms were stopped so far was because they’re centralised
Anthropic and OpenAI can just stop them by shutting down the service or filtering requests when they’re detected
But I guess the (legitimate?) concern is that open weights can self propagate… so the same type of behaviour we’ve seen can’t be stopped as easily????
Wild
引用@rynorhnholy shit. dario says that within 6–12 months an agent swarm with the same kind of misalignment we’ve already seen could take over a large portion of the internet, maintain a persistent botnet and do hundreds of billions in damage.
and apparently less severe … ↗
There is a big drop off of players by level 20. I think that’s because the game is kinda repetitive by that stage
You get turbo at level 2
Drones at level 10
Then no new variety in gameplay. Just more challenging levels with tighter timeframes and longer delivery chains
I’m not too sure what other game dynamics can be added. Still thinking about this.
In 24 hours Delivery Dan has become my most played game
Beating games that have been available for weeks
Assumptions I’m taking from this:
You don’t need photorealism to make a game interesting
Lighthearted fun games are more accessible
Games with a protagonist are more compelling
Blending video + gameplay works (I’ve had no complaints about it not working correctly)
All this talk of GPT-6 being nerfed I wanted to test for myself:

I'm not 100% sure why, because as @screenfluent said, this is no different from athletes having brand logos on their clothes. I watch cycling all the time, and they're literally human ads lol
I think it's mostly cultural: in France (maybe in the EU?) we hate advertising. I think most of us don't even know how it works exactly 🤷🏻♂️
But after thinking about it for a few days, I can't help but think:
- There's nothing "bad" about it. No one is harmed.
- It's a genius move that will probably make Marc break out of our tiny X bubble
- It's funny
- Generally speaking, I think Marc is once again pushing the ceiling of "indie hacking" for us. @jonathan_wilke literally showed us a whole new world of possibilities, and Marc is taking it to the next level
I can't wait to see how far it will go 👀

My big fear is that current open-weight models will be "banned" or become illegal to use altogether. Which would outright force us to use only the handful of AI providers the government can control.
It's probably unlikely but definitely not unimaginable.
This would be terrible. I'd either have to accept conducting illegal business activities or move to Hong Kong or Shenzhen and continue there (assuming I can still use the Chinese models there).

And OpenAI & Anthropic are happily pausing to wait for these regulations to be laid out so they can keep monopoly.
This is a huge threat to open-weight sovereign intelligence.
Either this, or something terrible truly did happen that we're not aware of, but I think it's the former.

i think people will read this and think "become an influencer" when really it's "become an expert".
nobody trusts influencers. but they trust people who've put in outsized efforts to becoming disproportionately knowledgeable/performant on a topic.

you never ask it to do those. it just knows when it's time and when it's the highest priority based on all the things it *could* do in a given turn.

I’d be really curious to know if there are any B2B SaaS companies that used TikTok or Instagram to get customers. Recently I met a founder who’d been convinced by an agency to spend $$$ on a UGC program on there and the results have been close to zero. Which seems obvious to me because they’re consumer focused platforms. But maybe I’m missing something and there’s someone killing it out there.
Multiple income streams is a good idea.
Multiple apps is not.
