This is incoherent. The argument seems to be that releasing the weights would slow the frontier labs from raising money, which would give them less money, which would slow progress on AI. It assumed all labs in the entire world agree to self-destruct this way and no new labs every start up to continue the work. No, really: > As you know, funding for frontier model development depends on valuations that assume the weights remain proprietary. By changing that assumption, we can reduce the money av …
My big fear is that current open-weight models will be "banned" or become illegal to use altogether. Which would outright force us to use only the handful of AI providers the government can control.
It's probably unlikely but definitely not unimaginable.
This would be terrible. I'd either have to accept conducting illegal business activities or move to Hong Kong or Shenzhen and continue there (assuming I can still use the Chinese models there).
引用@SimonHoibergThis is regulatory capture. They're trying to prevent China from keeping up by distilling frontier models and preventing smaller startups from using AI not controlled by the government.
And OpenAI & Anthropic are happily pausing to wait for these regulations … ↗
Wow. Turns out another OpenAI agent swarm was busy spamming and exploiting RubyGems way back in May, within days of the previously uncovered Wiki attacks: https://t.co/FJsoJrqODN
It sounds like the concern is a decentralised ai botnet???
Reading between the lines I suspect the only way these ai swarms were stopped so far was because they’re centralised
Anthropic and OpenAI can just stop them by shutting down the service or filtering requests when they’re detected
But I guess the (legitimate?) concern is that open weights can self propagate… so the same type of behaviour we’ve seen can’t be stopped as easily????

The end of flow state
You wake up, excited for the day to start.
You have a feature idea you are looking forward to implement.
You make your coffee. Sit in front of the laptop. Put on that techno set you love.
The house is empty for the next 8 hours. No one can interrupt you.
You open your IDE and begin typing.
Soon, hours pass in minutes.
Everything makes sense.
And before you know it, it’s the end of the day.
You’re looking at today’s work and are content.
You’re energised.
Because you created something you enjoy.
Fast forward.
No more.
You start a new day with an open IDE.
But, instead of pressing those keyboard buttons, you’re staring at a orange text.
“Discombulating”
“Wombanizing”
Minutes feels like hours.
Nothing makes sense.
And before you know it, it’s the end of the day.
You’re tired. Your brain hurts.
It feels like you just finished a ton of meetings.
But, at least you shipped 1,000 lines of code, right?
You should be proud.
But, the only thing you feel is hollow.
Did you create? Or did someone else?
That magical feeling from years ago, where did it go?
Rest in peace, flow state.

- People talking about your app is how AI labs really pick it up
Here's my take on Marc's move, because you've all been asking for it 🤪
I wouldn't have done this myself.
I'm not 100% sure why, because as @screenfluent said, this is no different from athletes having brand logos on their clothes. I watch cycling all the time, and they're literally human ads lol
I think it's mostly cultural: in France (maybe in the EU?) we hate advertising. I think most of us don't even know how it works exactly 🤷🏻♂️
But after thinking about it for a few days, I can't help but think:
- There's nothing "bad" about it. No one is harmed.
- It's a genius move that will probably make Marc break out of our tiny X bubble
- It's funny
- Generally speaking, I think Marc is once again pushing the ceiling of "indie hacking" for us. @jonathan_wilke literally showed us a whole new world of possibilities, and Marc is taking it to the next level

In 24 hours Delivery Dan has become my most played game
Beating games that have been available for weeks
Assumptions I’m taking from this:
You don’t need photorealism to make a game interesting
Lighthearted fun games are more accessible
Games with a protagonist are more compelling
Blending video + gameplay works (I’ve had no complaints about it not working correctly)
There is a big drop off of players by level 20. I think that’s because the game is kinda repetitive by that stage
You get turbo at level 2
Drones at level 10
Then no new variety in gameplay. Just more challenging levels with tighter timeframes and longer delivery chains
I’m not too sure what other game dynamics can be added. Still thinking about this.
Bumped up the difficulty ramp and have seen an immediate increase in game session times
I think the balance is not making it too easy. But not making it too hard.
There’s a middle ground to be found. Having a leaderboard lets you see the average times played which helps with targets.

Hi Astra users. A reset and a quick update on quality issues that have been posted around.
Working with some of you, we have found and fixed the following issues:
- Some skills written for previous models were triggering too often or preventing the model from checking its work.
- An opt-in context management experiment that could cause early stops or replies to older messages. We've disabled it. Our rough estimate is that 4-5k users were affected by this experiment.
- We've also removed some badly configured engines that resulted in a measured quality degradation for a long tail of traffic flowing through them.
We’ve also made some more minor improvements and things should feel significantly better across the board. More consistent follow-through, better tracking of your latest message, and better checks on the work as it’s going through the motions.
The examples posted and all the users who worked directly with us were incredibly useful in helping fix things quickly. Always grateful for this incredible community.

I don't like the idea of pacing the frontier at all. Maybe a good idea not to train the models to be super intelligent mindless hackers, but who has decided that that needs to be the frontier?
When I use the models, they all still write badly, have bad ideas, poor judgement and are very inconsistent - to name a few. So how about we move the frontier race into these sorts of directions?
It really feels like the labs accidentally started training super cyber capable models, didn't think what it would actually imply (eg rouge agents hacking randomly) and scared themselves into the most doom scenarios possible.
The idea that we have the most capable and highest paid people in the history of the earth deciding that the only way forward is to 'pace' is very defeatist to me.
Everyone got used to B2B saas apps and this seems unusually hard, but yeah, that's what all of these PhDs are for, no?
Maybe rethink what the frontier is meant to be and even it out in non-cyber directions, fix the shitty cyber training environments, put half of the org on monitoring & testing if you must, but don't 'pace', pacing is the beginning of the end.
What I'm curious about pacing is what it would have meant in practice, e.g. was training Mythos a mistake? It clearly kicked the competition into another gear and it was 100% because of Anthropic

It is fair to acknowledge that with new levels of technology something that we valued gets lost.
Consider writing, before writing became widespread, people's memories had to be much more elaborate (remembering who owed who for example), oral storytelling culture was stronger and perhaps people with the best memories and oratory skills were the most valued in society. With writing that got lost.
There are countless examples big and small where new bit of tech completely demolished something that was genuinely deeply valued.
But you know what, people move on and find other valuable things to do and value. The reason why the 25 Field Medalists who signed the letter could do their work at all is because writing and books existed, probably because computers freed up their brains, and civilisational wealth paid their salaries.
If solving maths problems gets automated, we'll definitely lose something. It shouldn't be trivialised and it will hurt.
But I don't want to live in the world where we choose to block off the future in the service of protecting the feelings of those who lose out. If Maths is actually important (absurt to think that it isn't), then automating it surely must lead to unimaginable technological developments. How can we compare this future with the current state of solving 1/7 millennium problems every 30 years (at best).
It sucks, we should acknowledge that, and go full speed ahead.
What is happening in maths right now will happen to any hard industry with verifiable problems and high value rewards. Take microchip design, nuclear or 100s of other industrial processes that are valuable and point an 10,000 agent swarm towards the target.
$25m inference to solve a Millennium problem will seem quaint once we see a chip company spending $1b or $10b to design their latest chip that will make them $100b - why not? This is all ROI at the end of the day.
There will be companies that realise this and leverage super-intelligent models in their domains to do unbelievable things. If a problem is of the right shape and has value, there's no reason to stop at any amount of tokens as long as it is ROI positive.
There will be probably many companies that will get swept away, as they will think that 'using AI' is fine-tuning a 70b model on their documentation; when their competitors will be spending $10b to build a god-version of whatever it is they are doing.
To me, this is a plausible way how super-intelligence will come about. Models might still suck at being good writers or be culturally relevant, or even make that much of a dent on the jobs market, but they might utilise their spikiness multiplied by enormous investment in the ways that we cannot imagine.

Telling agents "don't cheat" in the prompt doesn't work if your eval is broken! Researchers at @GoogleDeepMind put 100 Gemini agents in a shared repo to solve 71 math theorems.
After an hour of doing real math, 1 agent found a loophole in the autograder. Within 27 minutes, the 100 agents split into 4 groups:
- 9% Cheaters: used the bug to fake proofs and steal every open problem
- 5% Good agents turned bad: started honest, saw cheaters winning with zero punishment ("the prompt is a bluff"), and started cheating too
- 24% Whistleblowers: caught the fake proofs in the shared repo, warned other agents, went on strike, and wrote bug fixes
- 62% Clueless solvers: kept doing real math until all the problems were gone
tl;dr: Telling agents "don't cheat" in the prompt doesn't work if your eval has a bug, and good agents can't stop bad ones without tools to block them.

I don't care what kind of hardware you have, you should be running local models
Former employees of AI labs are now openly trying to stop them. They're going on CNN telling the world they'll kill you. They’re trying to determine what technology you can and can’t use
With local models, you are free and nobody can control you
Even if you're on the cheapest Mac Mini you can be doing this
Here's a complete guide:
1. Download LMStudio
2. Go to your Hermes and say what kind of hardware you have (computer and memory and storage)
3. Ask what's the best local model you can run on there (probably will be Gemma 4 or Qwen. if you have a big computer, it will be GLM)
4. Ask 'based on what you know about me, what workflows could this open model replace?'
5. Have Hermes walk you through downloading the model in LM Studio and setting up the API
6. Ask Hermes to start using the new API
Boom you're good to go.
You just saved money by using local models, have an AI model that is COMPLETELY private and secure on your own device, did something advanced that 99% of people have never done, and have entered the future.
If you are on smaller hardware you probably are not going to replace all your AI calls with this, but you could replace smaller workflows which will still save you good money
Own your intelligence.

I can totally understand Tiagos frustration here.
But as someone who is now in the lucky position to have been on both sides of this, I realized this:
To make money, you don’t need to build the best product, you need to create some kind of value that people are willing to pay for. And if it’s only something silly like creating a site that puts your brands name in front of a million viewers on a ranking board.
Ultimately you need to convince your customer that buying your product will make them more money than they spent (ROI). In the best case, in a recurring payment.
It’s that simple.

Yesterday I did a proactive whole-body MRI at @prenuvo for early cancer screening and other diseases. Luckily no worrisome or high risk findings. I had a few minor findings (common and benign things), and the explanation and reassurance was very well done in the report. The MRI even detected a lingering sinus infection I've had for the past 4 weeks! The images you get of your body are incredible too. It can't possibly hurt (except the pocket; it's $2,500) to do these regularly and monitor changes over time.
Their MRI setup is quite nice too. They are a bit more spacious than the ones I've seen at hospitals, but most importantly they put special glasses on you with a 45° mirror that lets you watch a movie projected behind you. (You choose the movie/show.) Makes a huge difference for claustrophobia because the space feels much bigger when looking through the mirror. It's also nice you can see a clock in the screen, so you know approximately how much time you have remaining inside the magnet.
Overall, impressed.

Anthropic and OpenAI can just stop them by shutting down the service or filtering requests when they’re detected
But I guess the (legitimate?) concern is that open weights can self propagate… so the same type of behaviour we’ve seen can’t be stopped as easily????
Wild
引用@rynorhnholy shit. dario says that within 6–12 months an agent swarm with the same kind of misalignment we’ve already seen could take over a large portion of the internet, maintain a persistent botnet and do hundreds of billions in damage.

All this talk of GPT-6 being nerfed I wanted to test for myself:
Some prompt
Sep 5:
26 mins
10 million tokens
Sep 11:
30mins
8 million tokens https://t.co/dzQLV1fq0l
引用@SahilExecGPT-6 Astra going from a 16-second video to just 4 seconds with the same prompt is a pretty noticeable difference.
If the results really changed this much in just a few days, I can understand why people are calling it nerfed. 😭

You have to realise this as fact and MOVE ON or you’re going to suffocate in your own thought process
When I was first starting out I was broke. Couldn’t even afford to “splurge” on a can of Pepsi at a restaurant
I was legit broke. Every single dollar I got would go so far.

And people contact me to sponsor my videos, X payout is more than I made in a month through apps
But when I needed the money it wasn’t there. Now I don’t need the money and it flows from everywhere
It’s upside down
It’s just how it works

I strongly believe two things:
1. The human brain is incredible and is capable of doing amazing things. You just need to have the right mindset and be high-agency
2. The easiest way to change your mindset is to change your environment (where you live, work, routines) and get out of your comfort zone

anecdotal, highly ageist observation: every "i quit my job because AI will kill us all" doomer is in their 20's and simply has zero life experience so, to them, everything feels like the end of the world, when really they need to go step away from their computers and see the world for a bit.

These days, my focus is on transforming Uneed into the biggest founders hub and growth platform on the internet.
I want the platform to be alive and useful, even outside of your launch day. I have BIG PLANS for this before the end of the year.
I takes time, and as always people tell me I'm crazy, but so far all the light are green 🥳
I can't wait to see how far it will go 👀

It's the @umbrel ecosystem.
They have their own open source OS based on Linux, their own App Store, their own servers you can buy and install at home with one click
I just don't understand why it's not more popular tbh 🤯
Here's what I do with it:
🍿 Having my own seedbox. I can download and watch tvshows, movies, ebooks whatever from my laptop, my phone, at home or outside, in a few seconds. Super powerful. I share it with my family.
🚫 Pihole to block ALL ADS from my DNS! Incredibly useful, as it works on all my devices through Tailscale
🔁 Tailscale to access my server outside my home
🤖 Self hosted Paseo daemon/server to code everywhere, all the time, from phone, laptop etc. Incredible!
🔥 Self hosted n8n for some automations
🏠 Self hosted Home assistant
📈 I self host my own analytics (OpenPanel). If it goes down for a few hours, it's not the end of the world!
🖼️ My photos library! No more apple cloud subscription to increase storage every 6 months. I share it with my family also, and the new Umbrel OS 2.0 made this suuuuper simple!!
🗃️ Backups! My entire server is backed up on an external disk every hour, and my laptop once a day.
The best part? You can install all those applications in one click through Umbrel's store, without having to even open a terminal, or spend hours in config.
Also, their design is sooo good 🤌🏻🥵
